Lesson 20 of 39Portrait Retouching: Face

Skin Texture & Skin Tone

Apply texture presets (Matte, Satin, Dewy) and unify complexion across face and body.

Article· 6 min

Skin Texture adds controlled surface character to retouched skin. Skin Tone tools unify complexion across face and body, correct tan lines, and add radiance. Together they ensure your subject looks polished yet natural.

Skin Texture

  • Matte: polished, minimal shine. Best for magazine and beauty work.

  • Satin: soft sheen, natural finish. Ideal for lifestyle and portrait.

  • Dewy: visible glow, radiant skin. Great for beauty and cosmetic-focused images.

Fine-tune each preset with Glossiness (highlight brightness), Texture (surface detail visibility), and Clarity (edge definition).

Skin Tone

  1. AI Unify Face Complexion: corrects uneven facial tones from lighting or makeup inconsistencies.

  2. AI Unify Body Complexion: targets body tone (excluding face) to fix sun exposure or clothing marks.

  3. Remove Tan Lines: reduces visible tan line transitions. Manual Tuning available for refinement.

  4. Unify Body Complexion (overall): balances face-to-body tone mismatches.

  5. Select Skin Tone + Tint: adjust overall skin color and redness.

  6. Skin Radiance: brightens skin glow without altering facial feature colors.

  7. Rosy Complexion: adds or reduces skin redness for a healthier look.

Try it

Open a full-body portrait. Apply AI Unify Face Complexion, then Unify Body Complexion, and compare the before/after to see how the skin tone becomes consistent.

Watch out for

  • Skin Radiance protects facial feature colors; Skin Tone changes them. Use Radiance for safe brightening.

  • Dewy texture on oily-skinned subjects may look over-the-top — dial Glossiness back.
