Lesson 6 of 16Edit one clip safely

Build a natural portrait look for moving subjects

Use portrait controls with motion in mind: clean enough for delivery, light enough to keep people real.

Article· 6 min

Video retouching fails when it looks good on a pause frame and fake during playback. This lesson keeps the portrait pass light, consistent, and believable.

How to do it

  1. Start from a clean anchor frame with a face close enough to judge, but not an extreme expression.

  2. Apply the smallest portrait preset that improves skin and eyes.

  3. Reduce skin strength until pores and age still read naturally during playback.

  4. Check hands and neck as well as face. These areas reveal over-retouching fastest.

  5. Scrub through a smile, turn, or gesture before applying effects.

Try it

Pick a 15-second talking-head, ceremony, or event clip. Build the look on one frame, then play through an expression change before applying.

Watch out for

  • Over-brightening eyes so they glow during movement.

  • Retouching face only while hands and neck stay untouched.
